To start, can you tell us a little about yourself?
When asked to provide some information about myself, I realize that I’m a fairly busy person! I enjoy spending time with my 2 young grandsons who are an unending source of joy and entertainment! I love spending time outside, gardening or with my horses. And when the creativity urge strikes I find myself playing with clay! I usually create something that has some elements of nature included!

What is your ceramics history?
I started playing with clay when I was about 12 years old – and I still have a few pieces from those days! As an adult I started taking classes at various locations and was fortunate to find Potters Place. After taking lessons with several instructors I became a member.
-
What inspires your pottery?
It’s hard to say what inspires me but once I have an idea in my head I have to start working through the creating as soon as possible! Often I have multiple “to do” items listed on my studio work board!
-
What is your favorite forming method or style? How did you develop your style?
It’s interesting to realize that I was ever able to pull myself away from throwing bowls! For years, all I ever enjoyed was throwing cylinders – and trying to throw as large as possible. I really had no interest in working away from the wheel! Then one day, I worked on some slab pieces. And then I started using as many texture objects as possible on the slabs, The next thing I knew, I was making more slab pieces than wheel thrown! Now I find that I enjoy working with texture and am always surprised by the effects I can achieve with glazing on texture!

What life lessons have you learned from ceramics?
Never be afraid to try new things!
-
What is the most rewarding part of the creation process for you?
No doubt the most rewarding part of creating is seeing the final result! Whenever I am able to open the kiln and see those gleaming pieces shining up at me, I am thrilled!
