Robin Potter

Robin Potter

Robin Potter

Like many people, Robin Potter's  first experience using clay was in primary school, but it wasn't until Junior High School that she had more formal instruction. After a long hiatus from pottery making, including attending The Art Institute of Boston (now Lesley University) with a concentration in documentary photography, Robin returned to working with clay by taking classes at Potter's Place. She fell back in love with working with clay mainly because of the versatile creative plasticity of it: from making functional ware to sculptures. Robin noted that working with clay can teach one about existential humility, while opening up a world of creative possibilities.

As a teacher at Potters Place, Robin is an instructor mainly in the art and technique of hand building. She has a special interest and expertise in colored clay. Robin enjoys sharing her knowledge in a structured and didactic way, but also learning from her students, and promoting creative curiosity. She likes to support student's interest in trying new things, exploring themselves through making, and pushing creative boundaries.

Students who take a class with Robin will receive individualized instruction, support, encouragement, and expert direction from an experienced ceramic artist.

Teaches:
All ages, all levels.

I started taking pottery classes at Potter’s Place in 2014 and I was hooked. My love for wheel-throwing and hand building has only grown. There are endless opportunities for exploration and experimentation, via form, shape, texture, and glaze. I think that is much of what continues to draw me in. In my free time, I enjoy experimenting with various techniques and creating unique pottery pieces.

Brian Joss

I started my journey with clay as an undergraduate engineering student when I took a ceramics elective. I fell in love with the feel of clay in my hands, and its ability to become anything my imagination desired.

I teach wheel throwing and hand building classes and enjoy the endless variety of techniques and creative possibilities that clay allows. My teaching goal is to help students discover the transformative power of clay, learning to shape their imagination into beautiful, functional pieces of art
